“Life in the Universe” is the second solo exhibition of Gato at Angle Gallery Amsterdam.
These paintings are about now and the capacity of painting to describe the world and the ability of painting to conceal the world. They are abstract like the philosophical speculation and like the Oracle of Delphos described by Heraclitos, they don’t explain, nor conceal. The attraction of the infinity results in a jungle of ambiguities were the paths of the day and the paths of the night are coming together. “Everything, says Parmenides, is at the same time full of light and of dark night, both in the same proportions, and there is nothing between “. That which is visible leads us to the invisible. Constantly new Universes are under construction. The truth is a discovering which never ends. The painting is never truly completed. The painter, like the philosopher to Heraclitos, seems like a gold seeker removing a lot of earth to find little. Chaos, order, spirit, matter, stardust : We are Universe.
